MEhaloak Photography is a 100% Inuit-run creative outlet born from a deep love for storytelling through images.

Rather than a business in the traditional sense, it’s a passion project—a space for collaboration, connection, and community.

Melynda is the main photographer, but has collaborated on different projects focusing on creating accessibility and space for Indigenous people. 

​

Living outside of Inuit homelands is what drove Melynda to explore this creative outlet to reconnect to her roots. ​

A Little About Me –

Melynda (She/Her)

Hi! I’m Melynda—an Inuk from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut (Iqaluktuuttiaq, meaning "Good fishing place"). I grew up between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, and these northern roots are a big part of who I am and how I see the world through the lens.

While photography is a creative passion of mine, my primary career is in Nursing and health policy/advocacy for Inuit across the world. I’ve explored many areas of nursing, but obstetrics has always been close to my heart. Becoming a mother of two deepened my appreciation for the prenatal and postpartum journeys—times of incredible transition, vulnerability, and love. Currently, I am working with the Inuit Circumpolar Council as the Health Knowledge Transfer Specialist, which has allowed me the opportunity to meet and work with many Inuit, Indigenous people and Indigenous ally's across the circumpolar world.

Photography started as a way to document my own motherhood experience, but over time, I’ve found so much joy in capturing those moments for others. I approach every session with care, collaboration, and a gentle respect for your story.

I love working with families and individuals to capture real, honest moments in all their beauty, and realness.
